KENNEDY, Gerald F. - Pana  
Gerald F. Kennedy PANA, IL - Gerald F. Kennedy, 99, of Pana passed away at 2:10 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 18, 2014, at Heritage Health in Pana. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 21, at Kennedy & Sons Funeral Home in Pana. There will be a prayer service led by Fr. Rodney Schwartz at 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Further visitation will be from 9:00-9:30 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 22 followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Pana. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Pana, Ill. Memorials may be made to: Sacred Heart Grade School in Pana, Pana Carnegie-Schuyler Library, or to the charity of the donor's choice. Gerald was born March 12, 1915, in Shelbyville, Ill., to Dennis J. and Anna U. (Hines) Kennedy. He married Luanna R. Werner on Dec. 6, 1943, in Tallahassee, Fla. He graduated from Pana Township High School in 1933, and was a graduate of the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science Class of 1937. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1945, serving as a surgical technician at a military hospital in Tallahassee, Fla. Following his military service, he returned to Pana and joined his brothers and father as a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer with DJ Kennedy & Sons Funeral Home. He was honored by the Illinois Funeral Directors Association in 1980 for his 55 years as a licensed Funeral Director. A member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, he was also an active member of the local Knights of Columbus chapter. Gerald is survived by his children: John Patrick (wife, Linda) Kennedy of Springfield, Ill., Ann Marie (husband, Ray) Harrier of Greenwood, Ind., and Michael Gregory (wife, Patrice) Kennedy of Brimfield, Ill. Also surviving are grandchildren: Daniel (wife, Rebecca) Kennedy of Mequon, Wis., Katherine (husband, Grant) Barksdale of Springfield, Ill., Andrew (wife, Jenni) Harrier of Greenwood, Ind., Brian (wife, Autumn) Harrier of Hanalei, Hawaii, Brennan Kennedy of Peoria, Ill., and Colleen (husband, Zack) Donlan of Peoria, Ill.; and eight great-grandchildren. Gerald was preceded in death by his wife, Luanna, who died March 29, 2010. He is also preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: J Cyril, Eugene P, and C Raymond Kennedy; and four sisters: Helen Godfrey, Mary Shea, Eleanor Kennedy, and Veronica Endris.

Leona "Johnnie" Kohorst SPRINGFIELD, IL - Leona "Johnnie" Kohorst, 95, of Springfield, died at 10:40 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2014, at St. John's Hospice. Leona was born Oct. 23, 1919, in Nashville, Ill., daughter of Leon and Victoria Schlehtka Jankowski. Leona was a graduate of St. John's School of Nursing and was the Supervisor of Admissions at St. John's for 21 years, retiring in 1989. She was the Administrator of the Capital Township Office of General Assistance from 1961-1967. She was a member of St. John's Alumni, St. John's Retirees, St. John's Samaritans, and Pasfield Golf League. She was also a member St. Agnes Catholic Church. She is survived by five children: Fred (wife, Joan) Kohorst of St. Charles, Mo., Ed (wife, Olivia) Kohorst of Rockwall, Texas, Joey Kohorst of Byers, Colo., Agnes Louise (husband, Robert) Cronson of Springfield, and Karol (husband, David) Sullivan of Marine on St. Croix, Minn.; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 18, 2014, at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 19, 2014, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 245 N Amos Ave., Springfield, with the Rev. Robert J. Jallas, officiating. Burial will follow at St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery in Nashville, Ill., with Fr. Andy Knopik, officiating.
