ANDREWS, Shelley - Springfield
Shelley Andrews SIGNAL MOUNTAIN, TN - Former Springfield resident, Shelley Andrews, died on January 27, 2015, at home in Signal Mountain, Tennessee. She was 65 and had suffered from ovarian cancer since 2012. Many Springfield residents first met Shelley when she and her husband, Don Andrews, moved from California in 1987, for his appointment as general manager of the (then) Springfield Symphony. Although they moved to Tennessee in 1989 when Don took the position of executive director of the Chattanooga Symphony and Opera, they kept in touch with their many friends in Springfield and visited often in person. Shelley's personality was effervescent, and she had the proverbial "gift of gab" that put people at ease. Her passing leaves a profound emotional void in the lives of all who knew her. Shelley is survived by her husband, Don Andrews of Signal Mountain, Tenn., and by her parents Tom and Margie Bowman of Piedmont, Calif. Also living in California are son, Christopher Andrews (spouse, Erinn) of Menlo Park; daughter Megan Andrews (and partner, Emily Rutherford) of Berkeley; grandchildren, Isabelle Andrews and Ashton Andrews of Menlo Park; and various aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. From 2003 to 2014 Shelley served as executive director of Friends of Moccasin Bend, where she helped raise "funds and friends" for the establishment of an interpretive center at this unique downtown national park unit. Her passion for this cause was unbridled, and she established strategic, lasting contacts and partnerships with National Park Service officials, Native American tribal representatives, and national leaders in land conservation. A memorial service for Shelley will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 305 W. Seventh St., at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 14, in Chattanooga, Tenn. The family suggests that memorial donations be made to Friends of Moccasin Bend, P.O. Box 4953, Chattanooga, TN 37405.
