BALUARTE, Carlos Llosa - Springfield  
Carlos Llosa Baluarte SPRINGFIELD, IL - Dr. Carlos Llosa Baluarte, 85, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014, surrounded by his family at St. John's Hospice in Springfield, Ill. He was born Nov. 12, 1929, in Lima, Peru, South America, the son of Justiniano Llosa and Rosa Baluarte. Carlos is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Graciela Llosa. He is also survived by daughters: Susana (Paul) Hendrickson of Putnam Valley, N.Y., Talia (Kalman Hart) Llosa of Hewitt, N.J., Melisa Llosa of San Diego, Calif., and Milagros (Adam) McMaster of Darien, Conn.; sons, Neri Llosa of Tucson, Ariz., and Tulio (Mae) Llosa of Springfield, Ill.; and grandchildren: Julissa Llosa of Brooklyn, N.Y., Carlos Llosa of Tucson, Ariz., Lucas and Gina Hendrickson of Putnam Valley, N.Y., Tyler and Evan McMaster of Darien, Conn., and Diego and Sophia Llosa of Springfield, Ill. Dr. Llosa received his Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering from The National Agrarian University in Lima, Peru. He was a recipient of the Rockefeller Foundation Scholarship to Purdue University for his masters and doctoral studies. While at Purdue University, Dr. Llosa researched and completed his dissertation on wheat genetics which led to his travels to multiple countries including Japan, Croatia, Austria, Colombia, and Mexico in order to improve wheat production methods in varying climates. He received his Ph.D. with a concentration in Plant Breeding from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind., in 1970. After completing his studies, Dr. Llosa served as an agronomist for the Experimental Station of the National Agrarian Institute in Lima, Peru focusing on cereal genetics and yield optimization. During this time, he taught Statistics at the University San Luis Gonzaga of Ica in Peru. He was also a renowned table tennis player, participating in numerous tournaments in Peru, his home country. He instilled this passion particularly in his youngest child, Milagros, who was born with a natural talent for the sport and who followed his lead winning several tournaments in South America and the U.S. Carlos became a U.S. Citizen in the year 1998 in New York City. Dr. Llosa was an avid learner who enjoyed reading about any topic during his spare time. He continued his education at Pace University in New York studying advanced mathematics and languages. He moved to Springfield, Ill., in 2010 where he became a member of St. Katharine Drexel Parish. He was also a big fan of the New York Knicks, tennis player Roger Federer, golfer Tiger Woods, and Deportivo Municipal, a Peruvian soccer team. His children will always remember their father for his kindness, generosity, sparkling smile, and wit. He was a persevering spirit who strived to provide the best quality education for them. To Carlos education was of the utmost importance. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 26, 2014, at St. Katharine Drexel Parish at Sacred Heart Church with burial at Calvary Cemetery in Springfield immediately following the mass. Bauer, Meta - Springfield  
Meta Bauer SPRINGFIELD - Meta Bauer, 84, of Springfield, passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2014 at Memorial Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family. Meta was born April 13, 1930 in Niedersachsen, Germany. She immigrated to the United States in 1950. She married John Henry Bauer on September 26, 1954 in Corona, NY, and settled in North Babylon, NY, where they raised their 5 children. John preceded her in death in 1972. Meta enjoyed sewing, knitting, gardening, and cooking. She was well known for her lasagna, butter cake and homemade bread. She loved flowers, birds and all things young. Meta was known for being an independent spirit who enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Doris Elaine Bauer; and her siblings, Freida, Martha, Bruno, Max, Ellie, and Sigmund. She is survived by her children, John Albert Bauer of Quincy, Carol Ann (Thomas Brozoski) Bauer of Springfield, Susan (husband, Scott) Trager of Cortlandt Manor, NY, and Lois (husband, Kevin) Cavallo of East Haddam, CT; three grandchildren, Samuel Trager, Matthew Cavallo, and Andrea Mikels; and siblings, Lena Mahlstedt and Rheinhold Boettcher, both of Germany. Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following private family ceremonies. BENSCH, James William - Springfield  
James William Bensch HOUSTON, TX - James William Bensch, 71, died of heart complications on Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2014. He is survived by his wife, Ginger, and five children: Jerri, Chris, Courtney, Cody, and Caty; as well as five grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Kathy, loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Jim began his professional career in Springfield working for Tom Lange Co. He later moved to Houston where he worked as a produce broker until his retirement. He was an avid golfer as well as a gourmet cook and wine aficionado. In honor of his military service, donations may be made to: The Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society.

BIDWELL, Roger L. - Springfield  
Roger L. Bidwell SPRINGFIELD, IL - Roger L. Bidwell, 79, passed away at his home in Springfield on Monday, Dec. 22, 2014. Roger was born Dec. 11, 1935, in Milwaukee, WI, the son of the late Harry and Pearl (Wells) Bidwell. Roger married Marilyn Evans on Oct. 14, 1961. They celebrated 53 years of marriage. Roger worked as a salesman throughout Illinois for over 50 years. He worked at Allis Chalmers, sold office machines, and then went on to work for Pierce-Royal bond selling supplies to funeral service providers. Roger loved working and really enjoyed all of the people he met over the years through his work. He loved to dine out and travel with friends and family. Roger was an avid golfer. Roger was especially proud of his daughter, who had become his caretaker since his illness. Roger is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn; his daughter, Linda Bidwell both of Springfield; nephews, Scott and Michael (Cathy) Evans of Champaign, IL; great-nephews: Fletcher, Parker, and Spencer Evans of Champaign, IL; and a sister-in-law, Judy Evans of Champaign. He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Mark Evans. Arrangements are under the direction of Bisch & Son Funeral Home, 505 E. Allen St., Springfield, IL 62703. A funeral service officiated by the Rev. Bob Dykman will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 26, 2014, at the funeral home. The family will receive guests at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery. Hazel D. Birch SHERMAN, IL – Hazel D. Birch, 78, died at 8:27 a.m., Friday, Dec. 19, 2014, at Memorial Medical Center. She was born Sept. 3, 1936, in Springlick, Ky., to Leck and Myrtle (Purcell) Davis. She married Russell Birch on March 7, 1952, and he survives. She is also survived by one daughter, the Rev. Barbara (Dean) Lohrbach; three sons: Danny (Sandy) Birch, Jeff (Stacey) Birch and Tim (Lana) Birch; nine grandchildren: Amanda Cameron, April Birch, Eric Birch, Holly Smith, Mark Birch, David Lohrbach, Nathan Birch, Sarah Lohrbach and Stephanie Birch; 12 great-grandchildren; and three sisters: Betty Porter, Patsy Cockrell and Carolyn Cooper. Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and three sisters. Hazel was a member of Calvary Temple Church. She was a farm-wife and homemaker. She spent a lot of time in prayer and Bible study and was a participant in nursing home ministry in Mason City and surrounding areas for many years. She enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Visitation: 9-11:30 a.m., Monday, Dec. 22, 2014, at Staab Funeral Home. William C. Boarman SPRINGFIELD, IL - William C. Boarman, 91, of Springfield, died at 9:37 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 20, 2014, at Villa Healthcare East. He was born Sept. 23, 1923, in Pawnee to Carlton and Clara Molohon Boarman. He married Alice C. Meier on Nov. 19, 1949, and she preceded him in death on May 19, 2012. He is survived by four children: William "Bill" T. (Janet) Boarman of Plant City, Fla., Mary Therese "Teri" (Denny) Clarke of Pawnee, Marian "Bo" Boarman of Springfield and Pat (Jeff) Morris of Prior Lake, Minn.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Patricia Boarman and Joan Boarman both of Pawnee; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one infant son, John; two brothers, James and Lawrence; and one infant sister, Elizabeth. William was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during WWII. He worked as an account for Allis Chalmers and retired in 1988 from Fiat Allis. He was a member of Church of the Little Flower. He belonged to the Pawnee Knights of Columbus and enjoyed golfing, cooking and gardening. Visitation: 2-4 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 28, 2014, at Staab Funeral Home with a prayer service at 2 p.m. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m., Monday, Dec. 29, 2014, at Church of the Little Flower with Fr.
