BIRKETT, Sandra Kay - Chatham  
Sandra Kay Birkett SPRINGFIELD, IL - Sandra Kay Birkett of Springfield passed away May 18, 2015. She was born Aug. 20, l947, in Springfield, the daughter of Louis Henry Spoor and Norma Corrine Works Spoor. She married James Thomas Birkett at Island Grove Methodist Church on Nov. 5, l982. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Barbara Johnson. She is survived by her husband, James, and his children: Lisa (Jeffrey) Coyle, Thomas (Kathy) Birkett and James (Michelle) Birkett; and grandchildren, Matt, Ben, Sam, Abby, Ally, Ana and Jake. She is also survived by two sisters, Shirley Johnson and Bonnie (Guy) Hinrichs; two brothers, Ronnie (Janet) Spoor and Robert (Rita) Spoor; brother-in-law, Boyd Darel Johnson; 10 nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and nephews. Sandi was of the Christian faith and was baptized at the Berlin Christian Church in Berlin, Ill. She earned a B.A. in Human Resource Management from Sangamon State University and an MBA from the University of Illinois at Springfield. She was employed by Central Illinois Public Service Company for 30 years and Ameren Services for five years, retiring in 2002. She also taught business classes at Lincoln Land Community College. A graveside service and burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery in West Liberty, Iowa at 1 p.m. on May 22, 2015. A celebration of life gathering will be held at a later date. Donald "Jack" Bormet SPRINGFIELD, IL - Donald H. "Jack" Bormet, 76, died Saturday, May 16, 2015, at Mary Bryant Home for the Blind in Springfield, Ill. He was born in Chicago Heights and was a longtime resident of the Mary Bryant Home for the Blind in Springfield. Employed by Hinds Machine Shop as a counter. Donald is a wonderful man and was loved by all who knew him, especially his brothers, Alvin and Norman Bormet. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Hildegard (nee Bryer) Bormet; two brothers, Alvin and Norman Bormet; and one nephew, Glen Bormet. Survived by two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Bormet of Morris, and Mildred Bormet of Buckley, Ill. Bill W. Buchanan JACKSONVILLE, IL - Bill W. Buchanan, 89, of Jacksonville, died Friday morning, May 22, 2015, at Heritage Health in Jacksonville. He was born Aug. 21, 1925, in Bowling Green, Ky., the son of Jesse and Dena Wright Buchanan. He married Dorothy E. Houston on July 4, 1948, in Jacksonville and she preceded him in death on Feb. 6, 2013. He is survived by three children: Joy E. Buchanan of Midland, Mich., John M. Buchanan (wife, Mary Ardis) of Jacksonville, and Robert L. Buchanan (wife, Lynda) of Chatham; five grandchildren: Joel Buchanan (wife, Kristen) of Jacksonville, Megan Johnson (husband, Daryl) of Morton, and Caitlin, Lizbeth, and Emily Buchanan, all of Chatham; three great-grandchildren; and a niece, Bette Crabtree (husband, Jim) of Chesterfield, Mo. He was preceded in death by a son, Richard E. Buchanan; a sister, June Bahr; and a brother, Jesse Buchanan Jr. A WWII veteran, Bill was a licensed funeral director for 67 years and a former owner of Gillham-Buchanan Funeral Home in Jacksonville. In addition to his funeral service career, Bill was a consummate public servant including service to Kiwanis, Boy Scouting, Jaycees, Passavant Hospital, District 117 School Board, Prairieland United Way, Jacksonville Public Schools Foundation, American Red Cross, Morgan County Rescue Squad, Salvation Army, and several Masonic organizations. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville with burial at Ebenezer Cemetery, north of Jacksonville. The family will meet friends at the funeral home from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday. Memorial gifts are suggested to: Jacksonville Public Schools Foundation, Ebenezer Cemetery Association, Passavant Hospital Foundation or Centenary United Methodist Church.
