ACHENBACH, Troy R. - Taylorville  
Troy R. Achenbach TAYLORVILLE, IL - Troy R. Achenbach, 92, of Taylorville, passed away at 1:17 a.m. on Thursday, May 21, 2015, at Taylorville Care Center in Taylorville. He was born Aug. 29, 1922, in Taylorville, Ill., the son of Walter and Ethel (Fesser) Achenbach. He married Virginia "Jean" Hiller Cies in 1971 in Taylorville, Ill., and she preceded him in death on Nov. 30, 2014. A graduate of Taylorville High School and Millikin University in Decatur, Ill., he eventually retired from Peabody Coal Company where he served as an analytical chemist for 30 years. He and his wife owned and operated Achenbach Investment Properties in the Taylorville area for over 25 years. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII. He is survived by his son, Alan T. (Denna) Achenbach of Taylorville, Ill.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Robert Jenkins of Elmhurst, Ill.; stepdaughter, Dr. Janet Hiller of Missoula, Mont.; stepson, Craig Cies of Indianapolis, Ind.; brother, W.B. (Jean) Achenbach of Naples, Fla.; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and daughter, Dr. Sally Jenkins. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2015, at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with the Rev. Jim Ferrill officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville. Visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2015, at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. Memorials may be made to: The Salvation Army, 530 N. 6th St, Springfield, IL 62702. BIRK, Bernard Neal - Monticello  
Bernard Neal Birk HOUSTON, TX - Bernard Neal "Benny" Birk, formerly of Lincoln, Ill., passed away peacefully on May 6, 2015, with loving family by his side. Bernard was born June 5, 1923, in Jasper County, Ill., to Wilmer R. and Emma (Sparling) Birk. He was a proud U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. Bernard married Eileen Elsas on Feb. 27, 1943, and they spent the next 72 years together. He retired in 1987 as Chief Engineer, State of Illinois McFarland Zone Center, Springfield, Ill. Bernard was an active member in the Lincoln and Chatham Masonic Lodge, having served as Worshipful Master; member of Ansar Shrine of Springfield and Scottish Rite Valley of Springfield. He received the designation of 32nd Degree Mason and Meritorious Service Award, Illinois Council of Deliberation. Bernard was a member of the American Legion, VFW and AMVETS. He belonged to the Texas Golf Coast Region of the Lincoln & Continental Owner's Club where he won numerous trophies for his classic Lincolns. Bernard is survived by his wife, Eileen Birk, and son, Gary Birk, of Houston, Texas; daughter, Jerilyn Rubino, of Lee's Summit, Mo.; granddaughter, Angela (Brandon) Brooks; two great-grandchildren, Dominick and Gianna Brooks, of Blue Springs, Mo.; and a sister, Dorothea Schmidt, of Lincoln. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Jessie Birk; and two brothers, Wilmer R. Birk and William "Bud" Sparling of Lincoln. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, May 21, at Mackey-Wright Funeral Home, Monticello, Ill. Masonic Rites will be held at close of visitation. Funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, May 22, at the funeral home. A graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m., Friday, May 22, with military rites at New Union Cemetery, Lincoln, Memorial contributions may be made to the Illinois Masonic Charities Fund, 2866 Via Verde, Springfield, IL 62703, or the Shriners Hospital for Children of your choice. Sandra Kay Birkett SPRINGFIELD, IL - Sandra Kay Birkett of Springfield passed away May 18, 2015. She was born Aug. 20, l947, in Springfield, the daughter of Louis Henry Spoor and Norma Corrine Works Spoor. She married James Thomas Birkett at Island Grove Methodist Church on Nov. 5, l982. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Barbara Johnson. She is survived by her husband, James, and his children: Lisa (Jeffrey) Coyle, Thomas (Kathy) Birkett and James (Michelle) Birkett; and grandchildren, Matt, Ben, Sam, Abby, Ally, Ana and Jake. She is also survived by two sisters, Shirley Johnson and Bonnie (Guy) Hinrichs; two brothers, Ronnie (Janet) Spoor and Robert (Rita) Spoor; brother-in-law, Boyd Darel Johnson; 10 nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and nephews. Sandi was of the Christian faith and was baptized at the Berlin Christian Church in Berlin, Ill. She earned a B.A. in Human Resource Management from Sangamon State University and an MBA from the University of Illinois at Springfield. She was employed by Central Illinois Public Service Company for 30 years and Ameren Services for five years, retiring in 2002. She also taught business classes at Lincoln Land Community College. A graveside service and burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery in West Liberty, Iowa at 1 p.m. on May 22, 2015. A celebration of life gathering will be held at a later date. Donald "Jack" Bormet SPRINGFIELD, IL - Donald H. "Jack" Bormet, 76, died Saturday, May 16, 2015, at Mary Bryant Home for the Blind in Springfield, Ill. He was born in Chicago Heights and was a longtime resident of the Mary Bryant Home for the Blind in Springfield. Employed by Hinds Machine Shop as a counter. Donald is a wonderful man and was loved by all who knew him, especially his brothers, Alvin and Norman Bormet. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Hildegard (nee Bryer) Bormet; two brothers, Alvin and Norman Bormet; and one nephew, Glen Bormet. Survived by two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Bormet of Morris, and Mildred Bormet of Buckley, Ill.
