Amy Lynn Grant

BEL AIR, MD. - Amy Lynn (O'Neill) Grant, 33, of Bel Air, Md., died June 1, 2008, after a 5½-year battle with breast cancer.

Born in Springfield, she graduated from Sacred Heart-Griffin in 1993 and from Beloit College in Wisconsin in 1997 with a degree in biochemistry. At Beloit, she was a star athlete who, upon graduation, held every soccer scoring record in the history of the college. In addition, she was all-conference champion five times, three times in track and two times in soccer. After graduation, Amy was a case manager at the Goldie B. Floberg Center for the developmentally delayed in Rockton. She married Jimmy Grant on Jan. 2, 1999, and moved to Maryland. In 2001 she earned a teaching degree from Towson University and worked as a special education teacher for five years, before illness forced her retirement. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an honor soriety for teachers.

Amy loved Jimmy, Carey and Finnigan, their Irish Setters, all of her family, the high school football and track teams her husband coached, Notre Dame and Big Ten football, St. Louis Cardinal baseball and Chicago Bears football. She organized, supported and participated in numerous events to help others.

She is survived by her husband of nine years, Jimmy Grant of Bel Air; her mother, Carole O'Neill of Springfield; her brother, James O'Neill of Los Angeles; her grandfather, Clayton "Vince" Moore, uncle, Terry Moore, aunts Chris Groves and Kathy Fisher, all of Springfield; father-in-law James Grant, and countless family and friends around the country.

She is preceded in death by her grandmother, Nadine Moore, of Springfield.

A visitation and service will be held at Evans Funeral Home in Forest Hill, Md., on Saturday, June 7, 2008.
