Benton L. "Ben" Martin

SPRINGFIELD - Benton L. "Ben" Martin, 85, of Springfield, died at 8:55 p.m., Monday, May 20, 2013, at St. Joseph's Home.

He was born August 22, 1927, in Macomb, IL, to Carl and Tessie Rigg Martin. He married Kathryn Hartmann Fishwick on October 22, 1965; she preceded him in death on June 3, 2010.

His parents; three brothers: Adrian, Max and Morris Martin; and one sister, Pauline Horine, also preceded him in death.

Survivors include one stepdaughter, Margaret "Meg" (Loren) Perrine of Divernon; two grandchildren, Jonathan Martin Perrine of St. Charles, MO and Lindsey Kay Perrine of Champaign, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

Benton was a WWII Navy Veteran. He was a member of Knights of Columbus 364, Bishop Griffin Assembly 4th degree and Elks Lodge 158.

He retired in 1989 from the Department of Insurance for the State of Illinois as Assistant Deputy Director.

Memorial Gathering: 9:00-10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 23, 2013, at St. Joseph's Home

Memorial Mass: 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 23, 2013, at St. Joseph's Home. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where Sangamon County Interveterans will conduct Military Honors.
