SPRINGFIELD - Charles H. Holland, 89, of Springfield, died at 6:10 p.m., Friday, September 6, 2013, at Capitol Healthcare. He was born July 1, 1924, in Springfield. He married Margaret Jean Schneider on May 5, 1978, and she preceded him in death on September 6, 2003. Also preceding him in death were his parents and three sisters.
Survivors include his step-daughter, Mary Ann (George) Sponsler of Sherman; two step-sons, Michael Lee Williams of Edinburg and Martin J. Williams of Springfield; three step-grandchildren, Ashley, Andrea, and Shandra; two step-great-grandchildren, Ella and Jackson; one niece and two nephews.
Charles retired after 38 years from Sangamo Electric and retired from the State of Illinois after ten years. He was a United States Army veteran serving in WWII and the Korean Conflict. He was a Good Samaritan at St. John's Hospital for many years. Charles was a huge Cardinal fan.
Visitation: 5–7 p.m., Monday, September 9, 2013, at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 11 a.m., Tuesday, September 10, 2013, at Staab Funeral Home with Reverend Richard Chiola officiating.
Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors.
