Donald L. Lepper

ROCHESTER, IL - Donald L. Lepper, 71, died at 9:20 a.m. on Sunday, July 21, 2013, at Heritage Health.

Don was born Oct. 1, 1941, in Springfield, Ill., the son of Richard and Mary Barton Lepper. He married his high school sweetheart, Mary Ann Mertz, on Feb. 8, 1964, in Springfield at St. Cabrini Catholic Church.

Don graduated from Griffin High School and attended Springfield Junior College and SIU in Carbondale. He served in the United States Army Reserves for six years. He worked for National Cash Register from 1964-1972, and then became a realtor and broker. He was a partner at Lepper and Green Realtors in Springfield. Don was then employed by the State of Illinois in the Lottery Division from 1982 until his retirement in 2003. After his retirement, he worked for the Rochester School District until 2012.

Don was a lifetime member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge #158 and a member of Knights of Columbus #4179. He loved to work in the yard and do his own landscaping. He also enjoyed his pond, golfing, shuffleboard, traveling with his wife, Mary Ann, and watching sports, especially baseball, basketball and golf. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Illini fan, as well as a wonderful husband and father.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Lepper of Rochester; two children, Julie Marie Lepper of Jacksonville, Fla., and Scott Allan Lepper of Virginia Beach, Va.; mother-in-law, Evelyn Mertz of Springfield; two sisters, Ellen Zink of Madison, Wis., and Dorothy (husband, Michael) Fanale of Fountainville, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, July 25, 2013, at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. The Elks Lodge #158 will provide a memorial ceremony at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Ceremony: 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 26, 2013, at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, with Rev. Msgr. David S. Lantz officiating.

Burial will follow at Rochester Cemetery.
