Earl E. "Gene" Brady

SPRINGFIELD, IL - Earl E. "Gene" Brady departed this life on April 2, 2014, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Sept. 2, 1928, in Benton, the son of Earl and Thelma (Monen) Brady. He married Marvine Schulze on Feb. 14, 1954; she preceded him in death.

He was also preceded in death by his son, Shawn Brady.

He was a graduate of Benton Township High School and Millikin University with a degree in engineering.

Gene was a U.S. Army veteran serving two tours during the Korean War. He had a long career as a Consulting Engineer in various aspects of the railroad industry.

Gene loved to watch his kids, grandkids and extended "Brady Bunch" family in all of their sports and arts endeavors. He was an avid reader and a lover of animals.

He is survived by his daughter, Karla (Scott) Wilhelm of Springfield; sons, Michael (Shelia) Brady of Butler, Pa., and Brian (Danette) Brady of Edwardsville; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his loving sisters, Phyllis Bland of Taylorville and Karen Tish of Auburn; brother, Jim (Shirley) Brady of Meza, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial Gathering and Service: The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until the time of a memorial service at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2014, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home.
