Elizabeth A. "Betty" Alewelt

SPRINGFIELD, IL - Elizabeth A. "Betty" Alewelt, 81, passed away at 1:47 a.m., Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, at her residence in Springfield.

Betty was born Dec. 9, 1932, in Springfield, the daughter of Herman J. and Anna E. Reynolds Oger. She married Robert C. Alewelt on Oct. 27, 1951, in Springfield.

Betty was a graduate of Feitshans High School in 1951. She enjoyed life as a homemaker, caring for her family until 1978 when she went to work for District 186 as a cafeteria manager. She retired in 1996 from Enos Elementary School. Betty was a member of the Altar & Rosary Society and Ministry of Prayer. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters: Helen Gibbons, Mary A. Denning and Bertha Rader; and four brothers: Louis Oger, Thomas Oger, John Oger, and Al Oger.

She is survived by her husband, Robert C. Alewelt of Springfield; five sons: George C. (wife, Donna) Alewelt of Rochester, Thomas R. (wife, Pennie) Alewelt of Arizona, Michael D. Alewelt of Springfield, Ronald J. (wife, Karen) Alewelt of Chatham, and Alan J. (wife, Kim) Alewelt of Rochester; four grandchildren: Ashley E. Eubank, and Kyle, Rylee, and Connor Alewelt; one brother, Bill Oger of Vandalia, Ill.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 5 p.m.

Funeral Mass: 10 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014, at St. Cabrini Catholic Church, 1020 N. Milton Ave., Springfield, IL 62702, the Rev. Paul Habing, celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
