Gerald M. "Jerry" Enlow
SPRINGFIELD – Gerald M. "Jerry" Enlow, 83, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, at his home.
He was born April 3, 1930, in Vandalia to Luther and Beulah (Huff) Enlow. He married Lula M. Kalips on July 1, 1950, in Decatur.
Gerald was a U.S. Army veteran. He was the former owner of Enlow Standard and Southeast Shell in Decatur and Mr. Softee in Springfield. He was formerly employed by the Townhouse Condo, the Racquet Club and Springfield Welding. He was a member of South Side Christian Church. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, great-granddaughter, and old friends. He also enjoyed RC airplanes, gardening, fishing and restoring old cars and tractors.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lula; son, Scott Enlow of Springfield; daughter, Lea Ann Hampton of Springfield; three grandchildren, Michelle Voudrie (Enlow) and her mother, Pennie S. Stevens, Shaela (Brian) Dust and Dr. Gregory Holmes-Hampton (Hillary Tilkens) and their father, David A. Holmes; a great-granddaughter, Greenlee Dust; and several nieces and nephews, including Jerry Hocking and James Hocking.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, James and Danny Lee Enlow; and sister, Doris Hocking.
Visitation: 1-3 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 10 a.m., Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home with Bob Green officiating. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery.
