Gilbert M. Corey

SPRINGFIELD – Gilbert M. Corey, 96, passed away June 20, 2014, at The Regency.

He was born Sept. 24, 1917, in Winona Co., Minn., to Guy M. and Coralynn Veir Corey. He married Maxine Malusky on May 6, 1944, in Minneapolis, Minn. She passed away in 2004 after 60 years of marriage. He was also preceded by his parents and two brothers, Stewart and Gordon Corey.

Gilbert was formerly employed by the Ford Division of Ford Motor Co. in St. Paul, Minn., for 11 years in sales and business management. He was the Regional Department Manager for Ford Division in Chicago, Ill., in sales and business management and President and General Manager of the Ford Lincoln Mercury dealership in Sterling, Ill., for 23 years, retiring in 1984. He was Past President of the Sterling-Rock Falls United Way, Salvation Army Advisory Board, Abe Lincoln High Twelve Club and Sterling Rotary Club, where he was a Paul Harris Rotary Fellow. Gilbert was a board member of the Sterling Chamber of Commerce & Rock River Country Club. He was a member of the St. Paul's 500 AF & AM, Valley of Springfield Scottish Rite, Ansar Shrine, Ansar Retirees Club, Capital City Shrine Club and First United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his daughters, Kay (Dennis) French of Lebanon, Ore., and Pamela A. Corey of Springfield; four grandchildren; six great- grandchildren; and several nephews.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m., Friday, June 27, 2014, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home, Rev. Dr. Roger Ross officiating. Private burial will be held in Oak Ridge Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners' Hospital for Children or First United Methodist Church.
