SPRINGFIELD, IL - Gloria M. Evans, 85, died at her daughter's home in Georgia at 8:26 p.m., Saturday, May 31, 2014. She was born Aug. 10, 1928, in Chicago, to Frank and Rebecca Jones Ippolito. She married Charles H. Evans, retired U.S. Magistrate Judge, on Aug. 11, 1951.

Survivors include her husband, Charles "Chuck" Evans of Springfield; twin daughters, Karen (John) White of Roswell, Ga.; Sharon (William "Bill") Bell of Springfield; 11 grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.

Her parents and one son, Craig Evans, preceded her in death.

She graduated from Brown's Business College. After working for the Illinois State Medical Society, she was Mrs. Jayne Thompson's Personal Assistant at the Executive Mansion. She went on to work as Governor James R. Thompson's Personal Secretary and retired when he left office in 1991. Gloria loved spoiling her family, especially her husband of 62 years. She spent her spare time cooking, watching the Game Show Network and previously volunteering at the Mary Bryant Home.

Visitation: 4-7 p.m., Thursday, June 5, 2014, at Staab Funeral Home, with a Prayer Service at 4 p.m.

Funeral Mass: 12 p.m., Friday, June 6, 2014, at Blessed Sacrament Church with Reverend Jeff Grant officiating. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a charity donation can be made to St. Joseph's Home.
