SPRINGFIELD, IL - Helen Paluska, 95, of Lewis Memorial Home in Springfield, Ill., and formerly of Waverly, Ill., died late Sunday evening, April 6, 2014, at Lewis Memorial Home.
She was born Aug. 19, 1918, in Adair, Ill., daughter of the late John Francis and Sarah Dell Bollinger Winston. She married Medill Paluska on Nov. 18, 1939, in Bowling Green, Mo.; he preceded her in death on Dec. 1, 2011.
Surviving are one daughter, Marsha Campbell (husband, Terry) of Waverly, Ill.; one son, Richard Paluska (wife, Jamie) of Waverly, Ill.; five grandchildren: Alissa Slinkard (husband, Travis) of Waverly, Ill., Alanna Lowder (husband, Greg) of Jacksonville, Ill., Leah Lyons (husband, Chris) of Waverly, Ill., Andrew Paluska (wife, Brandi) of Waverly, Ill., and Jake Paluska (wife, Kara) of Springfield, Ill.; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and three sisters: Evelyn Yordy, Lillie Mae Schwalb and June Ryan.
Mrs. Paluska was a graduate of Modesto Township High School in Modesto, Ill., and aided her husband in farming. She was a member of the Waverly First Baptist Church where she was a deaconess and taught Sunday School for many years and was a past 4-H leader.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2014, at Waverly First Baptist Church in Waverly, Ill. Burial will be at Waverly East Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. pm Wednesday at the Waverly First Baptist Church.
