SPRINGFIELD, IL - Sister Hermogene Ruesken, O.S.F., 99, of the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis died at 11:45 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2014, at St. Francis Convent in Springfield.

Sister Hermogene, the former Hilda Rose Ruesken, was born in Effingham, Ill., on Aug. 22, 1914, the daughter of Herman Joseph and Philomena Braun Ruesken. She entered the Congregation on Feb. 2, 1933, and professed her religious vows on Oct. 4, 1935.

Sister Hermogene served the community as a hostess/housekeeper/supervisor at St. Francis Convent, Franciscan Apostolic Center, and other places.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Louis Ruesken and James Ruesken, and one sister, Madonna Ruesken.

She is survived by two brothers, Arthur (Joan) Ruesken and Charles Ruesken; two sisters, Leona Dupree and Marie Jones; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; as well as her Franciscan Sisters with whom she shared her life for over 80 years.

Visitation: Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, April 7, 2014, at St. Francis Convent, 4849 La Verna Rd., with a Wake Service at 6 p.m.

Eucharistic Celebration and Rite of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2014, in St. Clare of Assisi Adoration Chapel at the St. Francis Convent with Father Andre Schludecker, OFM, presiding. Burial will be at Crucifixion Hill Cemetery.
