James D. Simpson
SPRINGFIELD, IL - James D. Simpson, 95, passed away at 8:46 p.m. on Tuesday, February 25, 2014, at St. John's Hospice.
Jim was born April 24, 1918, in Lincoln, the son of Harry and Frances Lynch Simpson. He married Aileen Lewis on June 29, 1940 in Springfield; she preceded him in death in 1996.
Jim attended Lincoln Grade School and was a graduate of Feitshans High School in Springfield. He proudly served his county in the United States Navy from 1942-1944 on the USS Grant Destroyer where he received war medals. He was employed by Scherfs Steel for over 38 years and also at Clark's Gas Station for several years. Jim was a hardworking and patriotic man, known for always being happy and for his good sense of humor. He was a former member of the K of C Council #364 and enjoyed the St. Louis Cardinals, his bowling league, watching television, traveling, Las Vegas, and dancing.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Harold and Robert Simpson; his sister, Margaret Evans; and his son-in-law, Daniel Fasig.
He is survived by his daughters, Janet Mae (husband, John) Stieren of Springfield and Lana Fasig of Springfield; five grandchildren, James and Jolene Stieren, Julie (husband, Robert) Taylor, Johnna (husband, Kevin) McCloughan, and Laura (husband, Trent) Dial; fourteen great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 28, 2014 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.
Funeral Ceremony: 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home.
Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery with military honors provided by the Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
