CHATHAM - Jennie Elder, 71, of Chatham, died Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at the Regency Nursing Care Residence in Springfield.
She was born August 23, 1941, in Springfield, IL, to the late Frank and Ethel January Stark. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Carroll and Donald Stark. Jennie married Stephen Elder on August 11, 1979. She enjoyed various livelihoods. She worked for Hartford Connecticut Insurance Company for many years and also was a hairdresser, a babysitter and a ceramic instructor with an in-home kiln.
As an avid Betty Boop collector, she amassed quite an array of varied items, including a personalized license plate.
Jennie was the coordinator of the Chatham Senior Citizens' Program and on-site manager for Daily Bread for many years.
Jennie is survived by her husband, Steve; daughters: Vickie Ammons (companion, Mary Lambert) of Florida, Kendra (Neivell) Allan of Ogden, Utah, Linda (Tom) Garner of Decatur, Susan Hoff of Manteno, Melonie (Nathan) Farnsworth of Springfield, and Kathryn Elder (companion, Melissa Peterrson) of Chatham; son, William Elder of Kankakee; brother, Robert (Darlene) Stark of Memphis, TN; grandchildren: Jarrod and Chelsea Sears, Ashley and Christopher Garner, Annalese Corwin, Daniel Shear, Alexander Farnsworth, Robert Doyle, Katie and Tiffany Arbuckle, Holly Lambert, Hannah Overfield, Kamden Elder, Matthew Lambert and Brandon Peterrson; two great-grandchildren, Carter Corwin and Isabelle Arbuckle; one aunt, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation: Her family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m., Sunday, May 19, 2013, at Staab Polk Memorial Home, 8855 State Route 4, Chatham.
Funeral Ceremony: will be at 11 a.m., Monday, May 20, 2013, at Staab Polk Memorial Home with her son-in-law, Neivell Allan, officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
