Jerry G. Allen

QUINCY, IL - Mr. Jerry G. Allen, 79, formerly of Springfield, Ill., died at 1:00 a.m., Monday, Nov. 11, 2013, at the Illinois Veterans Home.

Born March 3, 1934, in Marion, Ill., he was the son of Lloyd and Martha Howells Allen. He married Gerri Brooks on May 23, 1998, in Springfield, Ill. She survives.

Jerry was a member of the Westside Christian Church in Springfield. He was a 1952 graduate of Marion High School and attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. He loved to hunt deer in Illinois and Wyoming and was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan.

Jerry served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Korean War.

Mr. Allen was a member of the National Letter Carriers Association. He had worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years, retiring in 1991.

Survivors include his wife, Gerri; two daughters, Linley Scott (Robert) of Clearwater, Fla., and Robin Scott (Greg) of Jacksonville, Fla.; four stepchildren; four grandchildren: Andrew Scott, Grayson Scott, Emma Jane Scott and Thomas Scott; and nine step grandchildren.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lloyd Allen Jr. and James Allen; two sisters, Dora Jane Moake and Shirley Taylor.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial graveside service will be held at a later date with military honors by the Illinois National Guard Funeral Detail at the Rosehill Cemetery in Marion, Ill.
