John A. Garrett

PETERSBURG, IL - John A. Garrett passed away March 16, 2014 at home in Petersburg.

John was born to Robert and Frances (Eckhoff) Garrett in Petersburg on July 13, 1944.

His parents preceded in him in death. He also lost two brothers: Robert, leaving wife, Elly, and their son, Tim; also brother Gene, leaving wife, Cathy, and their two sons, Randy and Jeff; and was also preceded in death by a nephew, Vern's son, Christopher.

John is survived by his wife, Anna, of 47 years; his mother-in-law, Gladys Collins; a brother, Vern (companion, Barb) of Springfield and Vern's son, Howey; a brother, Tom (Doris) of Springfield; a sister, Joan (Walt) of Springfield and Joan's two daughters, Frany and Charlene; a sister, Alice (Don) of Petersburg and their two children, Donny and Kim; a sister, Emma of Springfield; a sister, Linda (Alex) of California and their two children, Evan and Athena. John is also survived by other people that touched his life, his honorary children: Ralph, Carl, Matt, Mike, Jessica, Chelsea, Kyle and J.D.

Cremation rites have been accorded and a private graveside service will take place at Camp Butler National Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Animal Protective League or St. Paul Evangelical Free Church in Petersburg.
