John Edward

KANSAS CITY, MO - John Edward Radtke, 83, passed away August 30, 2013. John was the patriarch of his family. Their fearless leader. John was funny, passionate, kind, caring, selfless, and oh, so protective. He was affectionately known as "Papa John" to his friends and family.

John was born May 6, 1930, in Arrowsmith, Ill., and raised in Elkhart, Ill. He attended Elkhart High School and was active in FFA. John was the oldest son of William Edward Radtke, a German immigrant, and Sally Johnna Livingston Sivert, of Cherokee Indian decent. They lived a modest but full life in Elkhart, Ill. John was the devoted brother of William "Bill" Lee Radtke and Linda Lou Radtke Scott.

John married his one and only true love, Margaret Sue Graham, on June 24, 1962. Married for 51 wonderful years, they had three children, Susan Radtke (Steve) Berglund, April Radtke (Jay) McCracken, and John Edward (Kerri) Radtke II. John was the devoted Papa of Katie and Jacob Berglund, Sam and Charlie John McCracken, and Hannah Radtke.

With over 50 years in finance, John served 15 years with Massey Ferguson, was the Director of Patient Accounts at Decatur Memorial Hospital and had 20 years of service to Deutz-Allis (formerly known as Allis-Chalmers Credit Corporation). When John retired, he began a career in real estate. He worked for Reece and Nichols Real Estate and enjoyed buying and selling cars for fun.

John enjoyed telling stories, helping those in need and visiting with all. John's greatest gift was he never met a stranger. His greatest love was his family. John was a devoted husband, father, papa, friend, son, brother, uncle and will be greatly missed.

"The things you do for yourself are gone when you are gone, the things you do for others remain your legacy." John has left a lasting legacy behind deeply touching all who knew him. May God bless him in eternal peace.
