Joseph R. Toigo

SPRINGFIELD – Joseph R. Toigo, 78, passed away Thursday, May 8, 2014 at St. John's Hospital.

He was born July 27, 1935, in Springfield, to Joseph B. and Celestina (Ciota) Toigo. He married Connie Moreland on Aug. 17, 1988 in Jersey County.

Joe worked as a foreman for Amrheins Bakery and later as a machine operator for Pillsbury. He was the owner and operator of the Delicious Donut Shop and Toigo Catering. He loved cooking and gardening. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.

He is survived by his wife, Connie; his children, Vicki (Bill) Fahey, Connie Olshefsky, James Toigo, John (Maria) Toigo, Tina Toigo (Greg Staber), Tara Toigo, Joey (Brittany) Toigo, Amber Godfrey-Toigo and Paul Toigo (Kelsea Neal); many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister, Louise Poos; many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews; and his beloved cat, Lucy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Rose Ross; infant son, Joseph R. Toigo, Jr.; sons, Joseph M. and Daniel A. Toigo; and a daughter, Debbie Mitchell.

Memorial Gathering: 10 a.m. – noon, Monday, May 12, 2014, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home. Private family burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery at a later date.

Celebration of Life Gathering: 3-7 p.m., Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at the VFW #10302 on Stockyard Road.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Boys and Girls Club.
