Louis C. "Deke" Webster

SPRINGFIELD, IL - Louis C. Webster, 75, departed this life Aug. 3, 2013, at St. John's Hospice.

He was born April 12, 1938, in Elsberry, Mo., to William and Della (Johnson) Webster. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Charles (Annabelle) and John (Clemmie); as well as five sisters: Bertha (Webster) Irvine, Ida (Webster) Smith, Florine (Webster) Strong, Leanna (Webster) Harris, and Euleta (Webster) Ewing.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Joel Irene (Warfield) Webster, whom he married on March 13, 1965, in Decatur, Ill.; one daughter, Rena Kay Hookfin (John) of Ft. Worth, Texas; one son, Louis A. "Tony" Webster (Stephanie) of Springfield; five grandchildren: Dominique Hookfin and John David "Trey" Hookfin III of Ft. Worth, Anika Webster, Kyra Webster and Peyton Webster of Springfield; one brother, Milford Webster (Ezella) of Springfield; and two sisters, Melinda (Webster) Kerr and Georgia (Webster) Hale, both of Springfield. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, fraternity brothers and many good friends.

Louis was a 1957 graduate of Feitshans High School in Springfield, Ill. He served in the United States Navy from October 1959 to September 1963. As a member of the Navy, Louis served as a member of the commissioning crew on the USS Kitty Hawk CVA-63.

He retired from the Illinois Department of Transportation in 1999 after 34 years of service. After his retirement from IDOT, Louis served as a doorman for the Illinois House of Representatives for several years.

Louis was a life member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, as well as a member of the American Legion Post #809. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church for more than 70 years where he held several offices and served on many committees.

Louis will truly be missed by his family and many friends.

Services will be held Thursday, Aug. 8, 2013, at Grace United Methodist Church, 1612 E. Capitol Ave., Springfield, IL 62703. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the funeral to follow at 11:00 a.m., Rev. Robert Freeman officiating. Interment will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield.
