SPRINGFIELD, IL - Marcella "Marcy" R. Brown Mutchler, 87, the oldest of five daughters, formerly of Butler, passed away March 12, 2014, at Christian Village in Lincoln, Ill., after an extended illness.

She was born Sept. 2, 1926, in Butler, Ill., to Miles P. and Lois M. (Karrick) Brown Rogers.

She was a homemaker for most of her life and later worked at the former Turtle Creek Nursing Home in Litchfield and at Hillsboro Health Care Center as a CNA.

She was a member of Butler Union Church. She loved gardening, antique shopping, collecting books, knives and swords. She enjoyed classical music and, in her later years, liked country music and enjoyed listening to her CD's. She was an avid reader and enjoyed Shakespeare and the classics as well as books about all religions and ancient history.

She was an animal lover, especially cats. She had a soft heart for stray and feral cats and couldn't let them go hungry. She had several favorite cats and had a very difficult time giving them up to others when she moved from Butler to Springfield in 2000. She could only bring her beloved Tony with her to Springfield, and he remained with her until she entered Christian Village in Lincoln in 2008.

She married Chauncey Mutchler on April 22, 1944. He preceded her in death.

She is survived by Sherri Olson of Springfield; Jack (wife Pat) Mutchler of Springfield; and Tarianne Ames, (husband Eric Shaver) of Mechanicsburg; 13 grandchildren; 24 great- grandchildren; and sister, Grace (husband Bernard) Levine of Chatham. She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Hayden Rogers; husband; daughter, Connie Cartwright in 1975; and sisters, Nancy Vanzo, Marilyn Rufus, and Eleanor Massey.

Memorials may be made to Adopt-a-Pet in Benld.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m., Monday, March 17, 2014, at Hough & Sons Funeral Home in Hillsboro with Rev. Larry Moslener, Pastor of the Community of Faith Church in Raymond, officiating.

Visitation will begin one hour prior to services on Monday.

Burial will be at a later date.

Hough and Sons Funeral Home in Hillsboro is in charge of arrangements.
