SPRINGFIELD - Morrine Pitts of Springfield, IL, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 22, 2013, at the age of 78.
Morrine was born April 24, 1934, in Aberdeen, MS, the daughter of Annie B. Hadley and Maurice Whitfield. She married Joseph L. Pitts Sr., in August 1949; he preceded her in death on November 2, 1982.
She was a faithful member of Shekinah Glory COGIC, having served as the Church Mother. She was also a member of the Christian Women's Council. Morrine was employed at Popeye's Barbecue for many years, and she was a devoted mother that loved serving the Lord.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; one brother, George Whitfield; and one sister, Ruth Ada Whitfield.
She is survived by her children: Joe Lee (Nancy) Pitts, James (Debra) Pitts, Jerry Pitts, Johnny Pitts, Floyd (Velma) Pitts, Calvin (Danyel) Pitts, Annie Bell (Manuel) Pitts, Jeannette (James) Wells, Estelle (Gregory) Tyus and Joyce Ann (Walter) Pitts; five brothers: Marwillie Whitfield, James Whitfield, Johnny Whitfield, Edgar Whitfield, and Charles Whitfield; four sisters: Rosie Green, Costella Wells, Jean Lewis, and Eula Whitfield; a host of 41 grandchildren, 101 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchild-ren; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Saturday, April 27, 2013, from 10:00-11:00 a.m., with funeral services at 11:00 a.m. at Shekinah Glory COGIC, 900 South Wirt Avenue, Springfield IL 62703 with Pastor Gregory Tyus officiating.
Burial will be held on Monday, April 29, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
