Morton N. Hoyt
URBANA, IL - Morton N. Hoyt, 96, died Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 9, 2014, at Morgan Memorial Home, 1304 Regency Dr. West, Savoy, IL, the Rev. Walter Carlson officiating. Burial will be Monday at 2:30 p.m. at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
Morton was born in Springfield on Sept. 3, 1917, the son of Walter and Nellie (Janssen) Hoyt. He married Norma Sue Ratterree in 1948, who survives and resides in Urbana.
Survivors include a son, Nicholas Hoyt of Urbana; two daughters, Laurel (Michael) Campbell of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Karen (Richard) Lange of La Grange Park; son-in-law, Kevin Storm of Charleston; five grandchildren: Matthew (Deborah) Campbell of Champaign, Scott (Sarah) Campbell of Sugar Land, Texas, Ryan Lange of La Grange Park, Evan Storm of Charleston and Emily Lange of La Grange Park; and one great-grandson, Elliot.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Holly Storm of Charleston, and a brother.
Morton earned his law degree from Lincoln College of Law in Springfield and worked in the insurance industry as a claims representative and superintendent for nearly 30 years. He served in the army during WWII, stationed at Fort Leavenworth, Kan.
He was an advocate for social justice and representative democracy, always keeping himself informed of current events and willing to discuss the relevant issues.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and his loving guidance will be missed by all who knew him.
