GREENVILLE - Patricia R. Howard, 82, formerly of Springfield, Illinois, died on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at Greenville Regional Hospital, Greenville, Illinois.
Pat was born January 22, 1930 in Altoona, PA, the daughter of Rudolph and Madeline Pearson Seidel.
Pat was a graduate of St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in Dayton, OH and College of St. Francis in Joliet, IL. She proudly served our country in the United States Air Force from 1952-1954 at Kissler Air Force Base in Biloxi, MS and later worked for the City of Springfield and Sangamon County Health Departments until her retirement in 2000.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, James.
She was a dedicated public health nurse and was a founding member of the Sangamon County Department of Public Health where she made many close and lasting friendships. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who, in addition to her professional interests, loved the Metropolitan Opera, baking and her grandchildren.
She is survived by one son, Hugh David (wife, Kasia) Howard Jr.; three daughters, Patricia Jean (husband, Marc Brown) Howard, Ann Elizabeth (husband, Mark, deceased) Blackmon, and Kate Howard; three grandchildren, Ian and Amber Blackmon, and Mila Howard; siblings, Rudolph "Mick" (wife, Teresa) Seidel, Donna Seidel (wife of James Seidel), Elaine (husband, James) Weaver, Marlene (husband, Dennis) Schraf, and Colleen (husband, William) Crider; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.
Graveside ceremony: The family will be hosting a graveside ceremony at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 15, 2013 at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors.
