Rex Floyd Medley

SPRINGFIELD - Rex Floyd Medley, 84, of Springfield, went to be with the Lord Jesus on May 7, 2013. He was born September 24, 1928, in East Cotter, AR and grew up in Mountain Home, AR. He was the eleventh of thirteen children of Eva and MacDonald Medley.

He married Lowanda Dawn Nash on July 21, 1962. They are the parents of James Rex Medley (Janet) and Dawn Ellen Hobbs (Dan) and grandparents of Matthew Medley, Ryan Hobbs, Ethan Hobbs and Brenna Hobbs.

He is survived by his immediate family, his sister, Dixie Whitaker and many nieces and nephews.

He served as Sergeant in the US Army for eighteen months in Korea during the Korean Conflict. He received his BS of Education from Missouri State University and his Masters of Education Administration from Peabody College in Nashville, TN. He served as an educator with the Springfield District 186 Schools for thirty-two years; nine years as a teacher and counselor and twenty-three years as an elementary principal.

He was an active member of Central Baptist Church for fifty-six years, serving in multiple leadership roles. In addition, Rex enjoyed fishing, reading (especially history), traveling, vegetable gardening, listening to all kinds of music from Blue Grass and Big Band to Symphony, and having lunch with the ROMEOS (Retired Old Men Eating Out). His greatest pleasure was spending time with his immediate family and at the annual Medley Family Reunion.

Cremation Rites were accorded.

Graveside Service: 1 p.m., Friday, May 24, 2013, at Camp Butler National Cemetery with Reverend Mary Ellen Sharp officiating and the Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail conducting military honors.

Memorial Gathering: 9-11 a.m., Saturday, May 25, 2013, at Central Baptist Church.

Memorial Service: 11 a.m., Saturday, May 25, 2013, at Central Baptist Church with Reverend Josh Sabo and Reverend Mary Ellen Sharp officiating.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to Central Baptist Church Youth Ministry or Central Baptist Church Outreach COMPASS Ministry or WLUJ Christian Radio.
