Shirley Udean DeBolt
PENSACOLA, FL - Shirley Udean DeBolt, 83, died Friday, Dec. 27, 2013 after a brief illness.
She was born in Mountain Glen, Ill., near Alto Pass, on March 27, 1930, the daughter of Roy David Dean DuRall and Norma Juanita Rendleman. She spent most of her childhood with grandparents who lived on Bald Knob and with parents who travelled the state on WPA construction projects.
Her family settled in Springfield, Ill., in 1942. She graduated from Springfield High School in 1948 and worked at the Illinois Tobacco Company. She married William Hubbard DeBolt, of Jacksonville and Springfield, on April 30, 1950. She spent most of her life as a homemaker and was active in the YMCA Indian Guides and YWCA Indian Princess organizations, the Red Hatters, and with Woodside Methodist Church.
After William's death in 2003, she relocated from Springfield to Pensacola, Fla., where she spent her last six years at The Veranda. She was a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star; honorary mother to the Cahokia Mounds Indian Dancers of Collinsville, Ill.; a member of the Springfield (Ill.) Chapter and the Pensacola Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and active in activities at The Veranda.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister, Beverly Norma Mitchell of Galesburg, Ill.
She is survived by her son, William Dean (wife, Judy); granddaughter, Jennifer L. O'Brien (NCC James A.); two great-grandchildren, William Aaron and Jordan Lynn, as well as several nieces and their families.
Burial will be at a private family service at the DeBolt family plot in the Carrollton (Ill.) City Cemetery in the spring or summer.
