SPRINGFIELD - Walter J. "Walt" Bregowy, 85, of Springfield, died at 10:31 a.m. on Monday, December 10, 2012 at his home.
Walt was born October 12, 1927 in Springfield, the son of Joseph and Gertrude Karlichek Bregowy. He married Judith Meizelis Boyce on January 11, 1997.
Walt proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1946-1947 at the end of WWII. He retired from Sentinel Pest Control after 20 years of service. Walt was a former member of Prairie State Polish Club, Lithuanian American Club, P.O.L.K. of A Club and the American Legion of Sangamon County. Walt loved all animals, especially his dogs, and he enjoyed walking and yard work.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Helen Netznik, Frances Devlin, Josephine Bregowy, and Gertrude Arnish; and nephew, Mark Netznik.
He is survived by his wife, Judith "Judy" Bregowy of Springfield; three step-daughters, Carol Berkey of New Lenox, Janet Lalas of Palos Park, and Sharon Boyce of Springfield; five grandchildren; three great- grandchildren; one sister, Pat (husband, Henry) Klinc of Springfield; two nieces and five nephews.
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 14, 2012 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m.
Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 2119 N. 20th St., Springfield, with Rev. Msgr. Carl A. Kemme, V.G., celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
