William "Bill" P. Cory
WILLIAMSVILLE, IL - William "Bill" P. Cory, 85, died surrounded by his family at 6:35 a.m., Friday, Nov. 8, 2013, at his son's home.
He was born March 16, 1928, in Springfield to Samuel G. and Mary M. Shaughnessy Cory. He married Mary Elizabeth "Liz" Swinford on Sept. 9, 1978, and she preceded him in death on March 10, 2011.
Also preceding him in death were his parents; one sister, Mary Blush; twin brother, Tom Cory; brother, Simon Cory; and two sons, Christopher Cory and John Cory.
Surviving are his five children: Rick (Mindy) Cory and Tom Cory, both of Springfield, Angela (late fiancé, Andy Emmons) Young of Girard, Jason (Sumar) Sloman of Williamsville and Wendy (partner, Pam Anderson) Sloman of Lebanon, Ind.; 12 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy (Jerry) Daley of Mechanicsburg and Veronica DeRosa of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bill was a U.S. Air Force Veteran. He worked as a scale master for PH Broughton Asphalt. He was a member of roofers local #112 for over 50 years. He loved attending auctions, working in the garden, fishing and camping.
Visitation: 4:30-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013, at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013, at Staab Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Harney officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
Memorials may be given to the Wounded Warrior Project.
