HIGHLAND - Frank S. Grzyb, 89, of Highland, died Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009, at Saint Joseph Hospital in Highland.
He was born Jan. 6, 1920, in East St. Louis, the son of Frank and Stella (Wondolowski) Grzyb. On Sept. 6, 1955, he married Eleanor Grzyb (Panizzi); she survives.
Frank attended school in East St. Louis and was employed by Hunter Packing in East St. Louis. He entered the U.S. Army, serving in the Pacific Theater during World War II. After he was discharged he was re-employed by Hunter Packing, working there 42 years and retiring 1982. In 1969 he and his wife moved to Highland.
He enjoyed woodworking, raising plants, spending time with family, his grandchildren, and reading.
He was also a member of Meat Cutters Local 530 of Missouri.
Survivors include his wife, Eleanor Grzyb (Panizzi) of Highland; two daughters, Patricia A. (William) Fawns of Athens and Daughter-Cathy M. (Larry) Strasen of Alhambra; four grandchildren, Amy L. (significant other, Joe Armistead) Strasen of Highland, Brandon C. (significant other, Meagan Strong) Maurer of Sherman, Aaron M. (Kris) Strasen of Highland, and Katelyn M. Fawns of Athens.
He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Grzyb Sr.; mother, Stella Grzyb (Wondolowski); brother, Theodore Grib; and sister, Mary Rielley.
Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, at Jefferson Barracks Cemetery in Saint Louis, with Rev. Keith Karau, pastor of St. Paul United Church of Christ in St. Louis officiating.
Interment will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
