Harvey Solomon
CARLINVILLE, IL - Harvey Solomon, age 98, of Heritage Manor in Carlinville, Ill., formerly of Palmyra, Ill., died Wednesday morning, Nov. 19, 2014, at Heritage Manor.
He was born Aug. 24, 1916, near Palmyra, Ill., son of the late Elbert and Opal Hartsook Solomon.
He married Coline Huson on Dec. 15, 1940, in Palmyra, Ill., and she preceded him in death on July 21, 2003.
Surviving are two daughters, Nancy Bivin and husband, Harvey, and Jane Solomon, all of Palmyra, Ill.; two grandchildren, Carrie Dintelman and David of Germantown Hills, Ill., and Rich Dowell and wife, Suzette, of Chatham, Ill.; four great-grandchildren: Jack, Anna and Daniel Dintelman of Germantown Hills, Ill., and Abi Dowell of Chatham, Ill.; one sister, Norma Scroggins of Palmyra, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; three sisters: Geneva Solomon, Grace Stults and Betty Marquis; and three brothers: Harold, Coy and Bruce Solomon.
Mr. Solomon was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Navy on New Caledonia as a postmaster. He was a rural mail carrier in Palmyra, Ill. for many years following the war. He was a member of the Palmyra Christian Church, Palmyra Masonic Lodge, Palmyra American Legion Post, and Palmyra Lions Club. He loved to garden, to do yard work and wood working, play cards, and spend time with his grandchildren when they were young and his great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 29, 2014, at Palmyra Christian Church in Palmyra, Ill. A private burial will be held at a later date at Oak Hill Cemetery in Palmyra, Ill. Friends may call one hour prior to services at the church.
Memorials may be made to: Northwestern Rescue Squad or Silver Strands, both c/o Stults-Neece Chapel, Main St., Palmyra, IL 62674.

Sorry to hear of Harvey's passing. I don't think I ever saw Harvey without a big smile and a friendly "Hello" He will be missed.
