SPRINGFIELD - Abbie Marie Davenport, 100, of Springfield, passed away Thursday, October 10, 2013, at Memorial Medical Center.
She was born July 2, 1913, in St. Louis, Mo., the daughter of Alfred and Lyda Bussard Sears. She married Ralph Davenport, and he preceded her in death in 1967. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Susan Marie Good in 1965.
Abbie was a member of West Side Christian Church, along with the U & I Sunday school class, for most of her life. She was employed at Sangamo Electric and Sears, but her passion was when she returned to school and received her L.P.N. degree. She then started her long employment at Memorial Hospital. After her retirement she volunteered there until her 90's. Abbie has three daughters, Marilyn Good, Delores (Dee) Davenport and Sherita (David) Crosnoe. She has five grandchildren, Christian (Angie) Crosnoe, Kiandra Clay, Greg (Rayanne) Good, David (Celia) Good and Christy (Randy) Boyd. She also has several great-grandchildren. Abbie was blessed on her 100th birthday this year to attend West Side's Senior Prom at Erin's Pavillion and was crowned the Prom Queen by Mike Harney (her favorite song director). Abbie treasured her crown and her sash for her remaining days. She loved the Lord and was a wonderful example to all she knew and loved.
Services are under the direction of Boardman-Smith Funeral Chapel, 800 S. Grand Ave. West, Springfield, with visitation from 10 a.m. - noon, Tuesday, Oct. 15, immediately followed by a funeral service at noon, officiated by Eddie Lowen, Lead Minister at West Side Christian Church.
