I am very sorry for your loss. I shared the field with Sgt Major at only one event but he left an impression I will never forget. He brought life and excitement to that event and exhibited a passion for both history and the folks there at the time that is without words. God Bless!

The family and I had the priviledge of knowing the SgtMjr for 7 fantastic years. His knowledge of CW history and management of the camp was OUTSTANDING. Every event this year has felt strange without Alan in our camp. Now the void is even larger. He was a great friend and mentor to me, Sandy, Remington and Duke. We are all at a loss for words however his memory will never fade.

My condolences to the family and reenactment community for the loss of SGM. I can recall the first and the last time I saw him. He always struck me as as a direct, down to business individual who made the events special. When I saw him, there was a personality that came from within him that I respected and admired. From my military background, he was the Cavalry SGM to the letter.

Sorry for your loss, Carol. We have known him since Daniel was starting kindergarden and friends with our son. Our families were together for many years of fun. Hang on to your memories, talk to him, laugh at the goofy things he did and he will stay in your heart and memories forever until you meet again.

There will always be a emptiness on the reenacting fields without the SgtMajor. I got to know Alan over the years, and he was ok in my book. I really enjoyed working with him. He will truly be missed. My prayers to his family and their time for healing. 1Sgt. Gunter (Pappy) 3rd Iowa Cav.

Alan will be greatly missed by his Civil War reenacting family. His last duty for me was clearing the streets in Springfield, IL on May 2 at the 150th anniversary Lincoln Funeral procession reenactment. Thanks, Alan, another job well done.

Alan, you were the most amazing man in the world and the best thing that ever happened to me. We had 13 wonderful years of marriage and just over 14 years together. What I wouldn't give to have just one more day with you. I am the person I am today because of you. You've taught me so much and I miss you more than you will ever know. I love you dear husband yesterday, today, and always... - Carol

Knew him only for a very brief time. Meet him at the rail splitter festival in Lincoln, il several years ago when the tenth Illinois volunteer Calvery regiment was doing a camp out. Was very impressed at his knowledge of the tenth and that he would remain in character the entire time we talked. I am a civil war buff and was very pleased and impressed that the other time I saw him was at the civil war medical encampment at the old state capital in Springfield, il. Once again, he was completely in character and never once wavered from 150th speech to modern. HE WILL BE SADLY MISSED BY THOSE OF US WHO KNEW HIM FROM HIS REENACTMENTS! PRAYERS TO HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS!
