Alexander G. "Alex" Bain

SPRINGFIELD - Alexander G. "Alex" Bain, 95, a lifelong resident of Springfield, passed away Wednesday evening September 1, 2010 at St. John's Hospice.

He was born in Springfield, June 16, 1915 the son of William and Annie Ballantine Bain. He married Nellie Stephens in Springfield, December 25, 1948 and she preceded him in death October 12, 2004. He was also preceded in death by a brother, James Bain.

Alex was a member of Calvary Temple Church, the United Mine Workers of America and was an avid fisherman and outdoors man.

Mr. Bain was a transport truck driver for 10 years and a watchmaker for three years. He also worked for CIM Railroad for four years, Crown Mine in Farmersville, and as a bulldozer operator for 40 years.

Surviving are his daughters; Lila Hohimer of Springfield, Maxine (husband Ken) Martin of Springfield, ten grandchildren; Sharon (Ralph) Fainter, Pat (Ron) Mose, Nancy (Don) Holshouser, Cindy (Kirk) Gleich, Michael (Diane) Hohimer, Rick (Lani) Burgar, Greg (Cecca) Hohimer, Toni (John) Reynolds, Tina (Chris) Zettek, and Lisa (Gilbert) Gutierrez, 31 great grandchildren, 16 great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bisch and Son Funeral Home 505 E. Allen where funeral services will be on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at 11:00 am. Pastor Mark Johnson will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior beginning at 10 am. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, those that wish may direct memorial contributions to Calvary Temple or Concordia Village.
