Daniel H. Harper
ATHENS - Daniel H. Harper, 71, of Athens, died on Thursday, March 21, 2013 at St. John's Hospital.
Daniel was born in Springfield, the son of Louis and Dorothy I. Peebles Harper on March 24, 1941. He married Marie Antonette "Toni" Wiesenberger on November 2, 1963.
Daniel was a graduate of Feitschen's High School and proudly served his country for 4 years in the United States Marine Corps, where he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He was employed by Fiat Allis for 20 years, Diamond Star Motors Mitsubishi for 10 years, and then Bunn-O-Matic for 8 years.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Toni of Athens; three children: Lena Gunville of Roanoke, VA, Gary W. (wife, Julia) Harper of Springfield, and Guy D. (wife, Sue) Harper of Mishawaka, IN; eleven grandchildren: Evan Gunville, Collin (Sarah) Gunville, Kyle Gunville, Travis Gunville, Jala (husband, Paul) Damery, Jamie (Kris) Sterbinsky, Grant Harper, Garrett Harper, Donnie (wife, Melody) Couve, Rachel (husband, Mitch) Fleming, and Joshua Harper; eleven great-grandchildren; and siblings: Jim Harper, Dale Harper, Evelyn Ferchow, Martha Harper, and Terry Heister.
The family will be hosting a Celebration of Life at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 24, 2013, at Eastview Baptist Church, 2277 E. Black Ave., Springfield.
In lieu of flowers, monetary contributions may be made to the Gift of Hope Organ and Tissue Donor Network, Attn: Gwendolyn Blakemore, 425 Spring Lake Dr., Itasca, IL, 60143. This is in honor of Daniel donating his body to Gift of Hope.
Cremation was accorded by Lincoln Land Cremation Society.
