David L. Rahe

AUBURN - David L. Rahe, 56, of Auburn passed away Thursday, February 16, 2012 at home with family at his side after a brief battle against cancer. He was born December 25, 1955 in Jacksonville, the son of Delbert and Shirley Walihan Rahe. His mother preceded him in death in 2004. David married Marlene Keltner on June 24, 1978 in Waverly, Illinois.

David graduated from Triopia High School in 1974 and from the University of Illinois in 1978 where he was a member of FarmHouse Fraternity. After graduation, his love of farming and cattle led to employment by Brackebusch Farms, Divernon, for the next 23 years as well as a lifelong friendship with the Brackebusch family. For the last 10 years, David continued to farm and raise Simmental cattle on a small scale while he enjoyed a second career at Wells Fargo. He valued and respected the friendships this new opportunity brought him.

David was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran, Bluffs and was a faithful member of Auburn Trinity Lutheran Church, Auburn, IL since 1978. He willingly gave his time and service in many ways over the last 33 years. David was a leader for Town and Country 4-H and also a life member of the Sangamon County 4-H Foundation, serving as Treasurer for several years. He was a member of the American Simmental Association, and established Oakleaf Simmental.

David was a loving and dedicated family man. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marlene; one daughter, Allison Rahe of Springfield; two sons, Daniel Rahe of Iowa City, IA and Joseph Rahe of Auburn; his father, Delbert Rahe of Chapin; two brothers, Kenneth (Bridget) Rahe and Tim (Carman) Rahe both of Bluffs; three nieces, Mallory, Olivia and Darcie Rahe; aunt and uncle, Arlene and Jim Rutherford of McLean; uncle, Milt Starman, Manito; many cousins and friends.

Visitation will be Monday, February 20, 2012 from 4 to 7 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church, Auburn. Additional visitation will be Tuesday, February 21, 2012 from 9:30 am till time of services at 10:30 am at the church with Rev. Richard R. Harre officiating. Burial will be in Auburn Cemetery, Auburn.

Memorials may be made to Auburn Trinity Lutheran Church.
