SPRINGFIELD - Donald Rieken, 92, of Springfield, passed away at 4:30 a.m. on Friday, April 26, 2013, at his residence.
Donald was born October 9, 1920, in York, NE, the son of Walter and Alma Hansen Rieken. He married Elizabeth "Betty" Zich on July 9, 1945, in Omaha, NE; she preceded him in death.
Donald was a graduate of Springfield High School and attended both DePauw and Cornell Universities. Donald proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. He was employed by the State of IL, Departments of Law Enforcement and Corrections, for 22 years until retiring. Donald was a member of the VFW.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, William Rieken.
He is survived by his three sons: Allan (wife, Patricia) Rieken of Phoenix, AZ, Dennis (wife, Lynn) Rieken of Springfield, and John (wife, Elizabeth) Rieken of Homer, GA; his daughter, Kathryn (husband, Jon) Nicolaus of Independence, MO; ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one niece, Linda Brownlee of Adair, IA.
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, 2013, at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.
Funeral Ceremony: 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 29, 2013 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 2645 Old Jacksonville Rd., Springfield with Pastor Daniel Eggold officiating. Burial to follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
