Donna Sue Wolaver
SPRINGFIELD- Donna Sue Wolaver, 80, of Springfield, died at 12:44 p.m., Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Memorial Medical Center. She was born April 27, 1932 in Springfield to Howard and Vivian Jones Burton. She married Donald Wolaver on February 20, 1960. He preceded her in death on December 1, 1996.
Surviving are one brother, Larry (Cindy) Burton of Mechanicsburg; one brother in law, Lynn (Arah-Dean) Wolaver of Fairborn, OH and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Donna received a Bachelor's degree in music from Indiana University and a Master's degree in music from University of Illinois. She was a resident of Springfield most of her life and had worked for SIU school of Medicine and retired from the Capital Development Board for the State of Illinois as an analyst.
Donna was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and also served as a deacon for the church. She was also a member and past president of Altrusa and of the Day Lily Society, member of Illinois Historical Foundation, Springfield Choral Society, DAR, Kings Daughters, and PHI Mu Sorority. She was very active in the Springfield Muni and was best known for her soloist work in the Springfield area churches. She was a member of the Jacksonville Country Club and played on golf leagues there as well as the Rail Golf Course in Sherman, Illinois. She and her husband Don were avid golfers and traveled extensively to play challenging courses.
Visitation: 10-11 a.m., Thursday, January 3, 2012 at Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Funeral Service: 11 a.m., Thursday, January 3, 2012 at Westminster Presbyterian Church with Reverend Julie Wells Blythe and Reverend Conley A. Zomermaand, Ph.D. officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Community Foundation of Land of Lincoln, 205 South 5th Street, Springfield, Illinois for the Donald and Donna Wolaver Memorial Golf Scholarship.
