Douglas Freyder

SPRINGFIELD, IL - Douglas Freyder, 83, died at 5:40 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013, at his home.

Douglas was born May 24, 1930, in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Philip and Helen Schmidt Freyder. He married Joyce Stephens on Feb. 21, 1953, in Wilmette, Ill.

Douglas graduated from Grinnell College in 1952 and proudly served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Mt. McKinley. He retired in 1985 from the Illinois Bell Telephone Company as a Division Manager. Douglas served as an Elder at the First Presbyterian Church in Springfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Gordon Freyder.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Freyder of Springfield; three sons: Stephen Freyder of Plano, Texas, Scott (wife, Lara) Freyder of Maplewood, Minn., and Robert (wife, Donna) Freyder of Plano, Texas; two daughters, Constance (husband, John) Kane of Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., and Carol Freyder of La Jolla, Calif.; eight grandchildren: Ryan, Raymond, Aaryn and Sophi Freyder, all of Maplewood, Minn., Andrea and Michelle Freyder, both of Plano, Texas, Brennan (wife, Carly) Kane of Coronado, Calif., and Laurel Kane of Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.

The family will be hosting a memorial ceremony at the First Presbyterian Church, 321 S. 7th St., Springfield, IL on Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013, at 12:30 p.m.
