Franklin M. Phillips 1934 - 2018
Jacksonville, IL— Franklin M. Phillips, 84, of Jacksonville passed away Sunday, September 2, 2018, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy. He was born February 14, 1934, in Jacksonville the son of Albert Wood and Willella Miller Phillips.
He is survived by three nieces, Elizabeth Holdt-Simmonds, Margaret Shea and Rebecca Tryon all of Dallas, OR; several great and great-great nieces and nephews; and his close friend and caregiver, Kathy Hullmann of Springfield. He was preceded in death by one brother, William Wood Phillips and one sister, Betty Lou Holdt.
Mr. Phillips graduated from Jacksonville High in 1952. He served in the United States Air Force. He attended Illinois College in Jacksonville and graduated from the University of Illinois with a BS in accounting. He obtained his Certified Public Accountant License and retired from the State of Illinois Auditor General Office in 1991. He was proud to have held his CPA license for over 50 years. He was a 40 year member of Fraternal Order of Eagles #437, American Legion Post #32. He was a 50 year member of Harmony Lodge #3 AF. & AM., VFW Post #755 and the Numismatic Association of Illinois. He was a life member of Elks Lodge #682, DAV, Ansar Shrine Temple, Yaarab Shrine Temple, AICPA, NRA, the Second Amendment Foundation and Shriners International. He held several offices at FOE #437, one of those being Past Worthy President. He enjoyed traveling, bowling, golfing and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. He will be remembered for his ability to recall dates and facts, his interesting stories and his generosity.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 14, 2018, at Diamond Grove Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Helping Paw Project c/o Carol Rodgers 2344 6th St. Springfield, IL 62703.
