George Edward Bridgewater

CHATHAM - George Edward Bridgewater, 61, of Chatham, passed away Thursday, May 23, 2013, at his residence after a long battle with leukemia. He was born April 14, 1952, in Springfield to the late William and Louise Wallner Bridgewater. George worked as a field mechanic at Martin Equipment for 17 years. Mr. Bridgewater was a former volunteer member of the Chatham Area Fire Protection District and the Sangamon County Rescue Squad where he served as a captain. He attended Glenwood High School and was a member of the Masonic Lodge #523 in Chatham since 1984.

George is survived by his daughter, Kate Bridgewater (significant other Tyler McCutcheon) of Springfield; step son, Robert Sprinkle of Springfield; sister, JoAnne (William) Thill of Charleston; niece, Heather Doty McMullen (significant other Joe Givens) of Decatur; nephews, Kris (Kelli) Bailey of Decatur, and David Thill of Charleston.

Visitation: His family will greet friends from noon until the time of the funeral ceremony at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, May 26, 2013, at Staab Polk Memorial Home, 8855 State Route 4, Chatham, with Paula Staab Polk, funeral celebrant. Burial will follow at Chatham Memorial Cemetery.
