Harold W. Young

SAYBROOK - Harold W. Young age 87 of Saybrook died at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday Aug. 29, 2012 at his home in rural Saybrook. His funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday Sept. 2 at the United Methodist Church in Gibson City with the Rev. Doug Dallas and The Rev. John Tennyson officiating. Visitation will be from 4 – 6:30 p.m. on Saturday at Lamb Funeral Home in Gibson City. Burial will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Drummer Township Cemetery in Gibson City. Harold was born January 24, 1925 in Gibson City a son of Carl H. and Alma C. Augsburger Young. He married Margaret E. Young on Dec. 9, 1945 at the Pontoppidan Lutheran Church in rural Elliott. She died June 19, 2009. Surviving are 5 children: Janice ( David) Christensen of Fort Pierce, FL, Judy (Dennis) Beetzel of Springfield, David Young of Thorntown, IN, Mary (Ric) Brenneman of Minier, and Nancy Hruschka of Alpharetta, GA, 16 Grandchildren: Eric (Anjanette) Christensen, Christina (Norman) Palmeri, Jon (Liz) Christensen, Kate (Tom) Driscoll, Elizabeth (Jonathan) Powell, Aaron Beetzel, Lucus (Angie) Young, Nicole Pruitt, Derek Young, Jeremy Young, Jacob (Sarah) Miller, Adam Miller, Phillip Miller, Margaret Hruschka, Andrew Hruschka, and 22 great grandchildren, a sister Dorothy E. Metzler of Indiana and a brother James E. Young of Florida. He was preceded in death by a grandson Joshua Richard Christensen, a great grandson Brayden Spencer Powell, 2 brothers: Richard E. Young, and John H. Young, a sister Mildred E. Walters and his parents. Harold has been a farmer in Saybrook since he was a teenager, working for his father. He enjoyed working in the farm community. He was a member of the Gibson City United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church Youth Work Group Missions, Gibson City, Illinois.
