Helen G. Park

Helen G. Park, 89, of Williamsville, Ill., passed away at her home on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014.

Helen was born Jan. 8, 1924, in Springfield, the daughter of Dr. Gerald C. and Grace E. (Beason) Hunt. She graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in Springfield. Helen married Mel Park on July 16, 1944, in Springfield. She worked for Illinois Bell Telephone, the U.S. Government, Illinois Light and Power, Franklin Life Insurance, and the State of Illinois. Helen became a homemaker after the birth of her son and remained so until she passed.

Helen was an active member of First Christian Church in Davenport, Iowa, where she rarely missed a Sunday morning service or Bible study group. She delivered Meals on Wheels for many years in Springfield and Davenport, and was active in the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. She enjoyed working with her husband in a number of fund drives which included the Salvation Army, American Heart Association, and blood bank drives with the Rock Island Rotary Club. She was widely known for the beautiful hand work she created.

Surviving Helen are her loving husband of 69 years, Mel; her son, Scott (Kim) of Williamsville; grandchildren: Anthony (Billi) of Auburn, Andrew (Stephanie) of Athens, and Angela (Jon) of Sherman; her great-grandchildren: Gavin, Connor, William, John, Elizabeth, Jacob, and Bryce; step-granddaughter, Shannon Smith of Williamsville; and step-great-granddaughter, Jade Moughan.

Celebration of life services will be held Saturday, Jan. 11, at 10 a.m. at Bisch & Son Funeral Home, 505 E. Allen St., Springfield, IL 62703. The family will greet friends from 9 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Williamsville.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Helen's name may be made to First Christian Church in Davenport, Iowa.
