She was born to Edward Everett Gore and Olive Margaret Snyder Gore in Jonesboro, Ill., on May 5, 1915. She married Freeland Williams on May 5, 1936. He preceded her in death in 1968. Active in Carterville First Baptist Church, they co-taught Sunday School and were named Christian Family of the Year.

After retirement she was a missions volunteer in Honolulu, Hawaii (1983-84) and in Reno, Nev. (1985-86).

A member of Springfield Southern Baptist Church, she taught Sunday School until her mid-nineties and was active in WMU, never missing her daily prayer calendar for missionaries.

A 26-year original resident of Oak Terrace (now Hickory Glen), she served multiple terms as president of the resident association. She was an avid reader, Scrabble player and puzzler.

She is survived by two daughters, Jane (Ron) Stockton of Dearborn, Mich., and Janet Craynon of Springfield; two grandsons, Greg Stockton (Cathy) and Edward (Brenda) Stockton; four great-grandchildren: Carolanne Stockton, Sarah Stockton, Daniel Stockton and Hannah Stockton; brother-in-law, Edward (Phyllis) Williams; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one infant son, Edward Everett Williams, and her younger sister, Martha Wiswell Colp.

Burial is Tuesday, Aug. 12, at Hillcrest Cemetery in Carterville.

A memorial service will be held Sept. 19 at Springfield Southern Baptist Church.
