James J. Gephart
SHERMAN, IL - James J. Gephart, 90, passed away Friday, Nov. 22, 2013, at the Villa Health Care Center East in Sherman.
He was born Aug. 20, 1923, in Marion, Ill., the son of James E. and Myrtle Mansker Gephart. He married Florence Smedley. Jim served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Riverton. He retired from the State of Illinois, Dept. of Transportation as a carpenter.
Jim was a member of the old Local #16, an avid gardener, loved his woodworking at home, and spending time with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, David, and son-in-law, Larry Greischar.
Survived by his wife, Florence; children: Mary Gephart of Columbus, Wis., Bob (Linda) Gephart of Lincoln, Tom (Ellen) Gephart of Springfield, Dan Gephart of Austin, Texas, Art (Koki) Gephart of Mt. Vernon, Joe (Elizabeth) Gephart of Decatur, Dennis (Karon) Gephart of Springfield, Betty (Ann) Newton of Springfield and Carol Gephart of Mt. Vernon; 11 grandchildren; 10 ten great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 27 from 9:30 a.m. until time of funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. at the St. James Catholic Church in Riverton, Rev. Raphael Paul deMoreno officiating.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Springfield.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Martin DePorres in Springfield.
