James R. DOUGHERTY Obituary

James "Jim" R. Dougherty

SPRINGFIELD, IL - James "Jim" R. Dougherty, 93, died at 10:39 a.m., Monday, Oct. 7, 2013, at St. John's Hospital.

He was born May 20, 1920, in Springfield to James and Mary Leman Dougherty. He married Freda Loyd and she preceded him in death on Feb. 7, 1996.

His parents and ten brothers and sisters also preceded him in death.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Jim was an avid Cubs fan. He enjoyed fishing, spending time socializing with his friends at Ma-Fatzs Tavern and eating at Steak-n-Shake.

He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran serving in WWII in several campaigns. He received the American Defense Service Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon with Silver Battle Star and four Bronze Battle Stars, seven Overseas Service Bars, one Service Stripe, Good Conduct Medal and Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Battle Star.

Visitation: 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013, at Staab Funeral Home.

Graveside Service: 1 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013, at Camp Butler National Cemetery where the Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County and the U.S. Army will conduct military honors.

Memorials may be made to Northenders VFW or Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
