Jane Frances Huffman

COLUMBIA, MD - Jane Frances Huffman, 92, formerly of Springfield, Ill., died at 9:32 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, at Sunrise Assisted Living Center in Columbia, Md.

She was born Dec. 9, 1921, in Chicago, Ill., to Louis D. and Ella M. Long Hoey. On Oct. 17, 1942, she married Patrick H. Huffman. He preceded her in death on May 27, 1980.

Also preceding her in death are her parents; one daughter, Carol Huffman; a brother, Louis D. Hoey, Jr.; and a sister, Marianna Brandon.

Jane is survived by a daughter, Mary Jane (Gerald) Nesbit of Ellicott City, Md.; two sons, Patrick J. (Martina Kief) Huffman of Lewisberry, Pa., and Michael T. (Sherry Clark) of Redondo Beach, Calif.; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Huffman was a member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and was a former member of Sts. Peter and Paul's Church. She had served as an usher at Sangamon Auditorium for 25 years, was a member of the Springfield Muni Choir for 10 years and was also a former member of the Silver Stepper Line Dancers.

She had worked as a medical stenographer for the Army during WWII and had also worked at St. John's Hospital, Illinois Dept. of Children and Family Services, and retired from the State of Illinois Dept. of Agriculture.

Her family and friends all knew her strength and her love of life and will miss her constant willingness to help others.

Visitation: 9-10 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.

Funeral Mass: 10 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Rev. Zachary Edgar officiating.

Private burial will be held at a later date at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
