SPRINGFIELD - Keith Taylor went home peacefully on July 10, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. Keith was born September 10, 1948, in Springfield, the son of Violet (Hart) and William L. Taylor, Sr. He was a graduate of the University of Illinois at Springfield, obtaining a Master's degree in Political Studies.
Those who will continue in this life, infused with his indomitable spirit, are his beloved wife, Debby, his daughter, Abby Pfeiffer (husband, Steve), sons, Brodie Taylor (fiancé, Shay Bottoms), Andy Taylor, Dan Bitner (wife, Stephanie), and brother, William H. Taylor (wife, Mona). Also included are numerous nieces and nephews and an adored grandson, Frederick Pfeiffer.
Keith had a distinguished career in public service, retiring in 2010, as Chief of Staff to the Illinois State Comptroller, Dan Hynes. He also served at various times on the staffs of the U. S. Senate, Illinois Attorney General, State Treasurer, and Lt. Governor.
He is remembered by the numerous people he served with as a tough but fair manager with a tremendous heart. His word, once given, was considered as good as gold. He maintained a network of friends and political acquaintances across the entire state of Illinois who valued his advice and wisdom.
Keith was an avid, bordering on manic, San Francisco Giants fan, much to the consternation of local Cardinal and Cub fans. He very much enjoyed their 2010 and 2012 World Series triumphs.
Keith also was an expert on sports and pop music trivia, particularly the Beatles. He was a voracious reader of American history and had an encyclopedic knowledge of American presidents and politics.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at 4 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 745 Woodside Road, Springfield, with an opportunity to greet the family from 1-4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Animal Protective League, 1001 Taintor Rd., Springfield, IL 62702, in Keith's memory.
