Athens, IL—Kelly Dennis Fox, 61, of Brandon, MS, formerly of Athens, passed away on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at Memorial Medical Center, surrounded by his family.
Kelly was born on October 12, 1957 in Maquoketa, IA, the son of Clarence D. and Rosamond L. Fouquette Fox, who preceded him in death.
He married Page M. Short on September 21, 1996 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Springfield.
Kelly grew up in Decatur and after graduating he joined the United States Army, serving as a medic for 3 years. He attended ISU after the military and started a career at the U.S. Postal Service in Springfield, retiring in 2012, after 25 years. Kelly enjoyed playing chess, restoring his Victorian home in Athens, attending auctions, collecting antiques, and was an avid Cubs fan. He loved the art of politics and followed local and national politics daily. He loved to call local talk radio stations with his views. Kelly was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Athens where he regularly played the organ for services.
He is survived by his wife, Page M. Fox; daughter, Madison R. Fox; mother-in-law, Becky (Joe) Dewees; father-in-law, Albert (Julie) Short; brother-in-law, Jarod Short (Kasie Wooldridge); sister-in-law, Abbe Short (Eric Little); nieces, Logyn and Lilyan Little; nephew, Hunter Wooldridge Short; siblings, Taylor, Cordell, Steven Fox, and Melanie Fox Morrow; several nieces and nephews; and his yorkies, Izzy and Willow.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, Stanton Fox.
Cremation was accorded by Lincoln Land Cremation Society.
The family will host a Memorial Service at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 309 Springfield Rd., Athens with Rev. Thomas P. Holinga, celebrant. Burial will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery in Watertown, SD at a later date.
